ICBC is taking a strong stance against accident insurance fraud in British Columbia, and the courts definitely seem to be agreeing.
On May 2, 2006, Mr. and Mrs. Panag of Surrey were involved in an accident at 130th and 72nd streets in Surrey. It was discovered during a subsequent investigation that they had lied in their account of the accident and solicited the assistance of one Harinder Grewal as a witness – although he was nowhere near the accident scene at the time.
With the assistance of Mr. Grewal’s testimony, they were found guilty and ordered to pay $188,000, along with an additional $10,000 each in punitive damages.
