I have two teenagers who aren’t particularly careful to follow microwave rules relating to cooking time, whether or not to use a cover or lid, or what to cook.
In the past I always dragged over my footstool (I’m 5′), grabbed my cleaner and two cloths and set to work with the cleaner, scrubbing away with as much elbow grease as possible and placing bits of food and crumbs in a small garbage bag. Being a grudging housekeeper, I do tend to wait too long before cleanings and by the time I get around to it, the foods remnants are encrusted on every surface inside.
Recently I decided to try something new after getting one of my infamous brainwaves. (“Oh, here’s trouble,” I can hear in my father’s voice.) I sprayed the cleaner over every surface on the inside, shut the door securely and set the timer for two minutes.
Once the timer ‘dinged’ I went at it immediately with a rag sprayed with some cleaner and the mess wiped right off with no effort whatsoever. I did, however, have to scrape any food residue toward the front, out the door and into the garbage bag. Then I did one final clean with the fresh rag and more cleaner and – IT WAS SPARKLING CLEAN!
Because of my allergies to chemicals, cleaners and scents, I always use GreenWorks. Of all the cleaners I’ve ever tried this one bothers me the least, yet because of the flu I’m still not over, I’m sitting here coughing and hacking from the effects. It also leaves a nice scent and this scent doesn’t bother me much at all if it lingers.

I have found that boiling a cup of water in the microwave helps loosen stuck on food without the use of chemicals. Lemon juice also works – don’t remember where I found that one.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll have to give that a try.
